I used to think you dyin’ would tear my world apart
But life didn’t tell me that isn’t where it starts.
To watch the one you love so dear
just gently fade away
just a few more pieces of them
gone every single day.
You smile as you hold them, and listen every time
as the fleeting memory left to them comes floating through their mind
You hold them tighter every time you have to say goodbye
not knowing if when you next see them they’ll be with you this time.
It might be several years ago it may be yesterday
the memories that they once knew, are new to them today
So hold them closer ever still
listen and you smile
for they love you over, and again
